358 Mesh Fence vs 3D Welded Mesh Fence: How to Choose

Product GuidesCommandFence

Choose CommandFence 2D 358G or 3D 358G when resisting climbing and cutting is the priority. Choose 3DG for general perimeter boundaries where appearance and practical installation drive the brief. Our manufacturing recommendation is straightforward: specify the security requirement first, then select the mesh pattern and panel profile.

Understand the model names before comparing

“358” describes the mesh designation; “3D” describes a panel profile. They are not opposing categories. CommandFence offers both 2D 358G and V-bend 3D 358G, alongside the separate 3DG V-Mesh Panel Fence. The product range lists these as distinct systems.

The nominal 358 aperture is 76.2 x 12.7 mm (3" x 0.5" x 8 gauge). CommandFence produces at 76.5 x 12.5 mm spacing (100 x 12.5 mm also available), with wire 4.0 or 4.5 mm. Use the production spacing and selected wire diameter in your purchase specification; the nominal designation alone does not identify the ordered configuration.

The 3D 358G combines 358 mesh with V bends. A request for “3D fencing” therefore needs a model name: 3D 358G and 3DG are different choices.

358 mesh fence vs 3DG: comparison table

The typical uses below are our selection recommendations, not claims about completed projects. Spacing values are the published wire-spacing specifications, not independently measured clear openings.

Comparison 2D 358G / 3D 358G 3DG
Aperture / mesh spacing Nominal 358: 76.2 x 12.7 mm; production spacing: 76.5 x 12.5 mm; 100 x 12.5 mm also available Vertical wire spacing: 50/55/65 mm; horizontal wire spacing: 100/200 mm
Wire diameter 4.0 or 4.5 mm 4.5, 5.0 or 6.0 mm
Climb resistance High-density mesh and seamless design provide anti-climbing performance Seamless design removes leverage points for anti-climbing performance
Cut resistance Anti-cutting performance is a stated product feature The product FAQ recommends 358 for maximum anti-cut, high-security requirements
Visibility 3D 358G is marketed as Clear View; assess the required sightlines Assess the selected mesh against the required sightlines; no comparative visibility figure is supplied
Typical uses Recommended for boundaries and restricted zones where intrusion resistance is central Recommended for general boundaries where the brief emphasizes demarcation and appearance

Choose 2D/3D 358G if…

Choose 2D 358G or 3D 358G if deliberate intrusion is the problem your boundary must address. Start by identifying the areas where unauthorized entry would have the greatest consequences. Put the security requirement in writing before comparing panel appearance or requesting quotations.

The 2D 358G system uses cold-formed I-shaped posts, dedicated interlocks and anti-theft bolts. Its published features include resistance to cutting and disassembly. Those connection details belong in the purchasing discussion alongside the mesh specification.

Choose 2D 358G for the 2D panel format, or 3D 358G when your design calls for V-bend 358 panels. Do not assume that the profile alone establishes a higher security rating. If a tender requires a particular test result, ask for supporting documentation for the exact assembly before approving a substitution.

Choose 3DG if…

Choose 3DG when the job is to define and organize a general perimeter, and your brief does not call for the 358 anti-cut option. Ask the project team to distinguish a boundary marking requirement from an intrusion-resistance requirement; that decision should govern the model selection.

The 3DG product page describes single-horizontal-wire welded mesh, I-shaped posts and anti-theft connections. It supports uneven terrain and either push-type installation or posts-first installation. These are useful planning features when reviewing site access and installation sequence.

Do not rank systems by wire diameter alone. Put the complete configuration beside the project brief: mesh, posts, connections, layout and access points. Request a quotation for that configuration so purchasing and installation teams are working from the same scope.

Fence height and post installation

CommandFence manufactures to order: we can produce any fence height to your requirement. For most perimeter projects, we recommend 2.0-2.5 m.

We supply both embedded-in-concrete posts and base-plate (bolt-down) posts. The choice depends on site conditions.

Combine both on one site

Use a zone plan when different parts of a site have different requirements. For example, specify 2D 358G or 3D 358G around a restricted operational area, and consider 3DG for a separate general boundary. This is a proposed layout approach, not a reported CommandFence project.

Mark every change of system on the drawing. Schedule each run by model, selected mesh, height, finish and quantity. Review corners, ground clearances and gate interfaces before ordering, rather than leaving transitions for the installation crew to improvise.

A shared post description does not establish interchangeability between assemblies.

Specify the finish clearly

For the powder-coated finish, specify 80-120 g/m2 hot-dip galvanizing before powder coating. This describes the zinc base-layer mass per area. The polyester powder coating is a separate outer layer. Keep the two treatments separate in quotations and inspection documents. See the 2D 358G surface specification.

FAQ

Is 3D 358G the same as 3DG?

No. 3D 358G uses V-bend 358 mesh. 3DG is the separate V-mesh system. Specify the full model name on drawings and purchase orders to prevent an unintended substitution.

Which model should I choose for cutting resistance?

Choose 2D 358G or 3D 358G when cutting resistance drives the decision. Define any required verification in the tender rather than treating a product description as a certified test rating.

Which fence is better for visibility or CCTV?

Make the decision against the actual viewing positions. Review a representative panel with the intended camera angle and lighting.

What should I prepare before requesting a quote?

Prepare a marked layout, model choices, dimensions, quantities, finish requirements and delivery destination. Identify gates, slopes and changes between systems. Ask for any unresolved specification points to be recorded in the quotation before you approve production.

Lead time, MOQ and samples

After order and payment, production typically takes around one month; the exact dispatch date is confirmed according to the current production schedule, and delivery time also depends on shipping to your port. Our minimum order quantity is 500 m. Samples can be sent by courier; the sample cost is deducted from the subsequent order, making the samples effectively free.

Send your site layout, fence height and quantity to get a quotation. We can courier samples first; the sample cost is credited against your order.
